Solar Costs
Lets talk real world numbers. Most houses that were built in the past 15 years have 200amp service. If you dont get, on average, a solar PV array of at least 12-15KW, its not going to be worth it. If all you do is drop you electric bill 30%, it will take a long, long time to break even.
Lets start with a metal building with roof mounted solar set up. This is real world numbers as of January 2025. We will keep this updated as times go on.
A 16.2kw system that uses 540w commercial bi-facial panels, mounted to a metal roof, with one 15kw inverter and 50kw/h of batteries will run about $50,000. No batteries, drop the price by $12,500. Ground mount vs on a metal roof, add about $7500 per 30 panels. A 32.4KW system with 100kw/h of battery storage is slightly less than double.
You can start small and add more batteries down the road. Same with panels.
There are a lot of variables, such as how long of a distance from the shop to the house (wire is costly) or how much 2/0 wire is needed - spacing for the inverters, transfer switches, and so on. But this will get you very close to real pricing.
If you want us to come out and visit with you and go over your specific needs, we are glad to do so at no charge. If you want us to design a system or come take a look at an existing system someone else installed and want our .02 to expand it, we charge a flat fee of $150/hr. If we install a system for you, you will get 100% of the consulting fee paid back.
